Empowered by Design

"Empowered by Design" is an exceptional art exhibition that seeks to illuminate the profound impact of design on individuals. Through a captivating collection of artworks, this exhibition celebrates the ability of design to inspire, motivate, and empower. It explores how understanding the design process can transform how designers think and feel, shaping their thoughts, feelings, and outlook on life, highlighting the powerful connection between creativity and personal growth.

Second Nature by Gary Staab

January 8 to February 1, 2024


Second Nature is an exhibition about the work and working methods of scientist artist, Gary Staab. Staab is a self-taught artist who makes phenomenal, life-like models of creatures that haunt natural history museum displays and captivate our imagination Second Nature peers behind the scenes into Staab's creative process. You get a chance to find out what it takes to create an accurate model of a creature that no longer exists. Staab's scientific models can be seen in museums, private collections, visitors’ centers, books, and film.

Adults 18 and over are invited to the Gallery of Art & Design for an exhibition related “crafternoon.” $5 fee covers materials, treats, and instruction. Pre-registration required at tinyurl.com/GalleryGrownups. Fees must be paid onsite at the event. Mastercard/Visa Debit/Credit cards or cash are accepted.

Gallery Kids

January 27, 2024


Children ages 5 to 15 years old are invited to join the Gallery of Art & Design and UCM Art Education students for a Saturday morning of creativity and art. Programs are based around a theme related to the current exhibition and every participant will leave with a unique work of art that they create with UCM students of Art Education. Four GALLERY KIDS events will occur during the academic year on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All GALLERY KIDS events are free and open to the public.

H = EM2 is an exhibition created by guest curator, artist Haorld Smith and his co curator, artist Vivian Bluett. Together Smith and Bluett envisage Humanity as a product of Estrogen plus Melanin. The works in the show are made by Black women artists working in a range of media including two-and three-dimensional works.

High School Art Show

March 4 to 29, 2024


The UCM High School Art Exhibition is a selection of outstanding artwork open to  high school students from a 150-mile radius of Warrensburg, MO. Students are  allowed two pieces of work and can enter any original drawing, painting (oil,  acrylic, opaque watercolor), mixed media, printmaking (serigraphy, relief, intaglio),  fibers, design/graphics, photography, ceramics or sculpture.

56TH ANNUAL CITATION SHOW

March 11 to 29, 2024


Each year in the Spring semester, the UCM Gallery of Art & Design asks students with declared majors & minors in Art & Design to submit their best works of art for inclusion in the Citation Show. An arts professional is selected to jury the exhibition, awarding cash prizes to the top artworks across numerous categories. The public is invited to attend the reception for this exhibition on March 28 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Awards will be announced at 4 p.m. The awards ceremony will also be available to view virtually over livestream. All events are free and open to the public.

Senior Shows: Studio & Art Ed

April 10 to 19


Each semester senior students preparing for graduation present an exhibition  showcasing a body of work that represents the culmination of their years of study at  UCM Art & Design. Exhibitions will be on view in the Art Center Galleries.

Reception: April 13, 12:00 to 2:00 pm

April 24 to May 4


Each semester senior students preparing for graduation present an exhibition  showcasing a body of work that represents the culmination of their years of study at  UCM Art & Design. Exhibitions will be on view in the Art Center Galleries.

Mid Missouri Artists Annual Summer Exhibition

June 24 to July 19, 2024


This annual exhibition will feature recent work by the Mid-Missouri Artists, a non profit organization serving artists and those interested in art in Johnson, Lafayette,  Henry, and Pettis counties. Paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, and fiber  arts are showcased in this popular community exhibition. All events are free and  open to the public.
